Due to the complex topography, the weather in Yunnan is diverse, which makes different travel seasons for different areas. Generally, Yunnan has a mild climate with pleasant weather, so it is suitable to travel to Yunnan all year round. It depends on the routes and places you will visit. For example, if you want to visit Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces or Xishuangbanna, winter is a good time; if you want to visit snow-capped mountains such as Haba Snow Mountain, Meili Snow Mountain, and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, winter is also a good choice. In summer, Lugu Lake and Fuxian Lake are recommended to escape the heat.
Some areas in Yunnan, such as Shangri-La, Lijiang, and the Tibetan Plateau, are at high altitudes. If you have never went to highland before, it’s recommended to take it easy for the first few days, drink plenty of water, and avoid strenuous activities.
